New Glarus crowds gather for the 1845 founding centennial with bleachers at the ball park being set up tests of fireworks and street decorations underway. Officials from the Monroe Chamber of Commerce visited to arrange housing for many visitors and coordinate the event logistics.
The New Glarus centennial committee requests all descendants of original settlers to attend Friday's program. Primarily children who arrived in 1845 or who lived in New Glarus and Monroe are asked to inform Ray Meythaler, committee secretary.

Florence Wartenweiler, county superintendent, announced that 38 of Green County's 97 rural graded schools will have new teachers for the 1946-47 term. Browntown state graded school will have a new principal and teacher. Several rural schools will not open. Ferguson may reopen. New teachers include names and townships across Adams, Albany, Brooklyn, Cadiz, Decatur, Exeter, Jefferson, Jordan, Monroe, New Glarus, Spring Grove, Sylvester, York townships, plus Browntown.
Washington official William J. Gilrein testified before the house surplus property committee that he ordered the allocation system used in the past, allowing Benjamin F. Fields to obtain 539 rolls of scarce wire screening. He said he directed Anthony J. Flood of the Philadelphia WAA office to follow prior procedures rather than a new Washington manual.

Green Bay tied the previous day’s top at 81 while Land O Lakes recorded 39 as the coldest spot with light rainfall in Plymouth and another dust settling shower elsewhere.

The 2500 ton British steamer Kedah was abandoned in the channel with her crew rescued by lifeboat.
