ASCS committee tours Green County conservation sites

Green County ASCS committee and township community committeemen toured conservation practices under the ACP program aided by the Soil Conservation Service. Stops included erosion control structures contour strips sod waterways stream bank work and a tree planting project with visits to farms in Jefferson and Adams townships and a final look at terraces a waterway and tiling.

Cheddar Bids Active On Green Bay Board

Trading on the Wisconsin Cheese Exchange opened with bids for cheddars at 33 cents. Raw milk colored cheddars and 40 pound blocks also at 33 percent with State brand. A later bid for State brand pasteurized single daisies at 35 percent was filled immediately. At close bids for cheddars and 40 pound blocks remained unfilled.

Religion Classes Must Leave Park

A widow, Mrs. Minerva Reese, has been ordered by the Wisconsin Conservation Department to discontinue Sunday School classes she has held for four years at Dodge State Park. Park officials say written permission is required under a new law. a clergyman asked for the stop, labeling her unqualified. Reese notes she taught Sunday school for 12 years at the Dodgeville Methodist church and says she taught about 20 children at the last session.

Train Kills Canadian In East Dubuque Area

Harry Ryon of Regina Saskatchewan was killed when struck by a Burlington Road train. The body was found in a creek in southern Grant County just north of East Dubuque. Authorities said they did not know what Ryon was doing on the tracks.

Court Blocks Rail Job Cuts

Federal Judge Joseph Sam Perry issued a temporary injunction blocking new management economy rules by rail carriers. The move could delay a program to cut 65,000 jobs, including 40,000 diesel firemen, with 13,000 immediately dismissed and 25,000 more later under proposed rules. Hoosier Camera Fan Killed by Dells Train

Melvin Nickell a 57 year old Indiana man vacationing with his family was killed at the Wisconsin Dells amusement park when he fell between a coal tender and another car on a small train. Several cars passed over him as his widow Gladys and two daughters Alice 13 and Jannette 11 watched from nearby.
