Polio Ward Plans at St. Clare Hospital Require Funds and Equipment
The St. Clare hospital polio ward will be an elastic isolation unit in the west wing with seven beds and separate facilities. Sister Blandine and Sister Evarista outlined a $30,000 budget for setup and equipment, including a new portable resuscitator, whirlpool bath, heat and light lamps, and a compress heater. The ward will also serve other contagious diseases and be ready for use at accident scenes, operating rooms, and for wheelchair patients. The Shrine-KC committee urged public support ahead of the Sunday benefit game at Recreation Park to fund the project and ease regional wards already stretched by epidemics.
