Traffic toll rises as Wisconsin mourns two young lives
The 1971 Wisconsin traffic fatality toll reached 591 after Friday deaths of 3 year old Randal Stange of Wisconsin Rapids and 19 year old Patricia Weihrauch of St. Paul. Stange died after a car struck him near his home. Weihrauch died when a car veered off I 94 near Eau Claire, crossing guardrails into Elk Creek.

Spencer man dies in machine accident at plant
Spencer resident Frank Tippelt 55 died Friday at the Meyerhauser we Corp plant after crawling under a machine to inspect a hydraulic leak and being fatally struck when the machine was turned on. Tippelt was brother of Marshfield Mayor Raymond Tippelt.
