Karen Witt Wins Top Beef Honors at Green County Fair
Karen Witt, 12, daughter of Lester and Mrs. Witt of Monroe, won the Champion of the Steer Show at the 109th Green County Fair after earlier capturing Junior Fair grand champion with her Hereford yearling. Open Class grand champion honors went to Charles Bunker of Platteville with a Shorthorn, while other Open Class winners included William Olson of Justamere Farm and Linden Pickel of Platteville. Open Class beef results feature numerous firsts across Angus Hereford and Shorthorn divisions with multiple champions named.

William Steffen 64, a South Wayne bank cashier, died at St. Clare hospital where he had been a medical patient since July 21. Born April 22 1899 in Chelsea he led Lafayette Manor and the Union Cemetery Association. Survived by wife two sons eight grandchildren and two brothers services set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at St Johns Lena with burial in Union Cemetery South Wayne.
