Symphonic Band Recital Planned for Wednesday Night

Symphonic Band to perform an 75 minute recital in the High School lecture auditorium at 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Admission is free with public encouraged to attend. Alan F. Barnard directs the group with assistant Vance Nelson. Eleven solo pieces were chosen from 38 presented to school and civic groups.

Truck Driver Not Negligent in Chicago Expressway Crash

A reckless homicide charge against Maurice Atkinson 28 dismissed in Chicago after witnesses said he drove five miles under the limit. The crash on the John F. Kennedy Northwest Expressway killed six people en route to O'Hare. Judge Daniel J. Ryan cited lack of recklessness and noted the lifelong burden on Atkinson.

Flaherty Wins $500 M C P T Scholarship at Monroe High

Monroe High School senior William S. Flaherty has been named recipient of a $500 Wisconsin Congress of Parents and Teachers Minnetta Hastings scholarship. The award supports his teaching field studies and requires a pledge to enter the teaching profession. Flaherty, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orville W. Flaherty, 1519 7th St., has been an outstanding student and active in Future Teachers of America, band, French Club, and 4-H, with an essay on why he wants to teach. He plans to pursue education and continues music teaching and directing roles.

Salvation Army Drive Set to Run May 2 to 21

Rev Frank R Hinebaugh chairs the local Salvation Army Drive starting Monday May 2 and running through Saturday May 21. Officers include Mrs Harry Ammann treasurer and Mrs Martha Grenzow secretary with a service unit handling volunteer relief and welfare funding from locally raised money. The unit assists disaster victims clothing food fuel meals lodging and hospital aid while state programs offer homes for unwed mothers camps for underprivileged children help for the blind and other services.

Bloodmobile in Pu laski seeks O positive for surgery

During the Badger Red Cross Bloodmobile visit on Monday from 1 30 to 6 30 p m blood is to be collected for open heart surgery. Eleven units of O positive blood are needed for a 55 year old woman from Pu laski Wisconsin. All other types are also wanted. The Red Cross relies on personal giving and aims to collect 115 pints to meet the community quota.

Federal milk market order set to replace 27 year Chicago plan

The Pure Milk Association says the May 1 expiration of the federal milk marketing order will trigger proposals to the Agriculture Department for a new Chicago market order. Wisconsin producers already align with Madison Milwaukee Rock River Valley and northeastern Wisconsin markets. PMA warns against price-cutting by dairy cooperatives as it plans a pooling system to keep producer prices near current order levels while boosting fluid milk blended prices.

Sundseth Named Vice President at Swiss Colony Data Center

Kenneth R. Sundseth elected vice president effective May 1 to head the Data Processing Division at The Swiss Colony. A 10 year company veteran, he helped build the division offering electronic data processing and clerical services with offices in Madison Beloit and Monroe. Sundseth, born October 16 1928 in Beloit, is a UW alumnus and was married in 1948 to Betty Wholfert with three children Sherrie Jeffrey and one more.

Early Bicycle License Inspections At Dawn

In the first hour 143 bicycle licenses were issued. Dennis, Dick and Bob Holyoke led the early arrivals who received the low numbers on a first come basis. Sgt. Ervin L. Goecks said several youths came before midnight but were sent home. VFW and VFW Auxiliary assisted with registration and inspection.
