Mayor Walter Ekum visited National Guard Company B during a weekend training at the Monroe Armory to commend guardsmen for preventing looting and guiding traffic after the Palm Sunday tornado. The visit highlighted their 3 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday and 6:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday sessions, with field maneuvers and preparations for May 14–16 at Camp McCoy.

Clothes Closet Hours Outlined
The Clothes Closet run by Monroe Woman's Club at the Community Center will open 9 to 12 and 1 to 4 on Wednesdays this week. For help call Mrs. David Burri or Mrs. David Bennett or Mrs. Aliie Holtshopple. About 25 families received aid over two weeks after the tornado, with donations from a 50 mile radius. Next week regular 1 to 4 Wednesday hours resume.

Parents Identify Son's Body After End of Gun Battle
In Anta Maria California a 6 year old boy fired at passing cars on U S 101 wounding 11 and killing two adults before a 12 hour gunfight ended with the youth shooting himself. His parents Forrest and Joyce Clark of Long Beach identified his clothes eyeglasses and a Play Boy lighter. two adults Charles Hogan and Joel Kocab were killed and several others wounded including a 5 year old boy and an 8 month old girl. The boy used a 30 06 Swedish Mauser with a telescopic sight. more than 50 deputies police and highway patrol officers converged on the scene after traffic was halted. The driver who moved the Reida car to safety the truck driver Lloyd Ritchie and others were praised for bravery.
