Wisconsin farmers push bill to curb corporate farming
About 1,000 farmers and families packed the Wisconsin Assembly chamber to back a bill restricting corporate farming to companies with under 15 stockholders. Supporters warned large conglomerates raise costs and hurt communities, while cannery and canning firms warned of major production losses if larger corporations are barred. One opposing farmer spoke, voicing property rights concerns. The Agriculture Committee did not act on the measure.

Bundesmarine visitor from Germany stays with Monroe hosts
Seaman Bernhard Meyer 21 from Cloppenburg Germany visits Green County after three German Navy buddies praised local hospitality. He will return to Great Lakes Navy Station tomorrow after a week as guest of Mr and Mrs Louis Baertschi. Meyer will train in anti submarine missiles at Key West next, then complete seven months of schooling in the United States. He hopes to study as a machinist after duty, has bought a car, and enjoyed square dancing and a Northside School class talk during his visit.
