Monroe City Considers Higher Sewer Rates and Zoning Changes

Monroe volunteers responded to a chimney fire at the Lewis Hull residence 1913 11th St at 6 45 p m and at 1 17 a m to a car fire on Wis 69 North atop Round Grove Hill The Hull chimney suffered creosote buildup and minor roof damage while the late night car fire involved a vehicle driven by Marguerite Rast of Monroe no fire damage occurred The car was towed to Monroe plus a Green County Conservation League pickup and local council actions covered city clerk hires police staffing and various board appointments.

Monroe to Begin Bicycle Registration on Saturday
On Saturday April 24 and again May 8 from 8 am to 12 noon and 1 to 5 pm Monroe will license bicycles after inspection. Jaycettes Monroe Police Department and VFW members urge riders to ensure brakes lights reflectors and carriers are safe and that serial numbers are recorded for identification. Children should be accompanied by a guardian and forms distributed through schools. Volunteers from Cecil Jones VFW Post and Girl Scout Troop 211 assist with inspections and safety booklets.

Green County Board reorganizes elects officers and approves labor contracts
The Green County Board of Supervisors reorganized electing Robert M. Hoesly as chairman and Harold M. Babler as first vice chairman with Naomi Barnard as second vice chair. They re elected several committee members and added Thomas Smith to the highway and bridge committee. Labor contracts with Pleasant View Hospital and Green County highway workers were approved with pay raises, and new rules set penalties for dogs at the courthouse lawn. The board also rezoned 13 acres in Decatur Township to industrial and designated the chairman as affirmative action officer with a six member commission to follow. A Wisconsin local affairs official urged creating a personnel specialist role under CETA.
