Monroe Historic Homes Tour Showcases Local Heritage
About 130 people from the Woman's Club of Monroe and the Green County Historical Society toured five local landmarks on Sunday learning about Monroe's early history and architecture. Cadette Girl Scout Troop 211 assisted. the event featured a tea at Idle Hour Mansion and visits to the Green County Historical Museum and several historic homes with period details and newly acquired artifacts.

Three Receive Silver Beaver At Monroe Scout Dinner
Three men from U. S. Grant Council Meyer Taylor Platteville Walter G Seeman Freeport William Dayton Savanna received the Silver Beaver Award at Monroe High School gym in a banquet that drew over 230 attendees. Dr. Eugene Vickery presented the honors and praised their leadership in Scouting. Police later noted several local accidents with minor injuries and vehicle damage.

Bicycle Registration Day Set For April Twenty Six
Bicycles must be registered on Saturday at 8 a.m. in the municipal building parking lot. Owners should bring bikes ready for inspection. Monroe Police with Post 2312 V F W and auxiliary assist. Registration costs 50 cents. Safety gear required includes pedals grips chain guard bell or horn fenders brakes rear reflector and headlight if used after dark. Remove old license clips beforehand to speed inspection.

FFA Banquet To Be Tuesday
The Monroe Future Farmers of America banquet will be held tomorrow at 7 30 in Monroe High School gym. Awards will be presented and the Star Farmer named. Curtain Ils Down On Minstrel Show In Monroe
The 1969 Modern Minstrel Show by the Monroe Lions Club and Monroe City Band played four capacity performances. The Monroe City Band led by Allen Barnard backed two and a half hours of music. 162 band cues were noted. Mr and Mrs Barnard received a community service award from Sen Gordon Roseleip and Assemblyman Joseph Tregoning.

Widow of Monroe cheese dealer Nell Stuart dies at 77
Mrs. George W. Stuart known as Nell, died at Monroe Manor Nursing Home after a cerebral hemorrhage seven months earlier. Born Nellie Irene Wenger in Monroe in 1891, she was widow of a noted cheese dealer killed in Chicago in 1944. Her family long served in the local cheese industry.

Unidentified Flying Object Seen Near Browntown Area
Mr and Mrs Robert J Phillips on Route 1 South Wayne report sighting an unidentified aerial object near the Dill factory on Highway 11. They described a kettle drum shaped light that shifted to red orange and hovered then moved away as they watched from their car before continuing to South Wayne.

Late lake ice breakup hits northern Wisconsin waters
The ice went out on most northern Wisconsin lakes during the weekend. Veteran observers call it one of the latest breakups in recent years. Strong winds helped open the lakes, including Big Pelican Lake near Rhinelander.
