Two Grass Fires Reported in County

Two grass fires were reported in the county on Friday as rubbish burning got out of control. Blanchardville firefighters were called at 3:07 p.m. to the Kenneth Folkadale farm on Rt. 2 Mt Hareb north of York Churches, and were on scene about 20 minutes as the flames spread along two fence lines in different directions. The Monticello Fire Department responded to a fire on the Charles Rolph property near the Monticello Sales Barn, arriving at 11:03 a.m. and extinguishing the blaze after only a few minutes.

Monroe Community Gardens reopen with registrations Monday

The Monroe Community Gardens resume operations this year with plots on the northwest side near Twining Park and a tentative south side location. Last year’s participants receive priority, plots are 100 on the north site, each 1,000 to 1,200 square feet, and fees stay at $6. Registration requires the coupon and $6 at the Times office, or mail to 2519 9th St. Monroe 53566. Nearby landowners with three acres may contact Jim Glessner at the Times for rental offers at prevailing rates.

Ludlow Library Outreach Programs Extend To Hospitals and Homes

The Ludlow Library in Monroe runs weekly book cart visits to St. Clare Hospital and circulates books to Churchill Woods elderly apartments, Monroe Manor, and home-bound patrons.
