Cattle receipts were liberal with mostly half fat and grassers. Top price this week was 9.25 for four loads of 1616 lb steers sold to T. F. Heller of Boone County. Cattle, hogs, and sheep prices are listed with ranges for good to common grades, along with weekly shipments by McClintic & Yates and others.
In a Tuesday special election at Shelbina C A Rivercomb was elected marshal. He has filled the position and is said to be a splendid officer. Prof Goetze and wife of Moberly visited A Jaeger s home earlier this week while en route home from the Lumbermen s excursion.
Leake and Wilson with State Salesman sold Rumely goods in 1914, moving a 20 hp Garr-Scott engine and Rumely separator to Dave Gosney John Gosney and Will Engle, a Rumely separator to Howard Tyler, another separator to James Bannister, a Rumely rig engine and separator to J. E. Floyd, an Advance engine to Ott Zeiger, a Rumely engine and Advance separator to C. W. West, and an engine to Sam Huff. Total sales surpassed 10 000 dollars, signaling a likely strong wheat and oat crop in the area.

Senator R S McClintic departed Tuesday to tour the Eastern States and study workingmen's compensation laws. They will review laws in Ohio New Jersey New York and Massachusetts to gain information beneficial to Missouri.
Citizens along the Katy line urge improved service with a hearing set by Judge Kennish at Paris starting 9 o'clock Friday morning. The Paris Commercial Club, led by A R Blakey and others, pressed for quicker trips as current schedules force long waits and hindering business. Both sides will present arguments before the Utilities Commission, with interested residents urged to attend.
H W Garlington and wife hosted a noon Sunday dinner at Mrs Elsie Miles home. Guests included Bassett and Ballon of Paris Hage president of Hage Engineering Co St Louis and Roy and James McFarland of this city. They enjoyed a pleasant social time and dinner. The couple left next day for St Louis en route to Vastus Mo to install an ice plant. They have been in town two months while installing the McFarland ice plant.
Sunday evening at seven Mrs Cornelia Collins and Thomas L Burditt were married by Rev John H Hubbard at the Methodist parsonage. Present were Miss Collie Owen Grant Lee and H B Sparks and wife. The bride, once living north of town, is well regarded. The groom, a prosperous farmer near Hunnewell, has farms rented for the season and they will reside in town until spring. The Democrat joins friends in wishing them a happy future.

A blaze damaged a wheat field on William Elliott’s land near John Kendrick’s property about four miles east of town. The shock-placed wheat, estimated to yield over 30 bushels per acre, was burnt and a Burlington team is investigating the cause.

Lyell, visited Hunnewell briefly on Monday.
Hon William H Wallace will speak for the Democratic nomination for U S Senator at 8 o clock Friday evening. All are invited to attend. J F Rodgers of Harlingen Texas is here with many friends and is highly popular for his long list of friends.
Miss Lala Greenwell and Isaac Bonta of near Lakenan were united Monday afternoon by Rev Fr Ryan. The bride is sister to Mrs Ed Abell. The couple will live in Morrisville where the groom has bought a telephone exchange. A large crowd enjoyed Sunday’s opening day at Spalding Springs resort.

Miss Edna Clea Crimm and Thomas W Jackson were married Wednesday at 8 PM at the Crimm family home near Mt. Vernon church. Attendants Virginia Griffith and Laona Shearman. Rev. F P Hanes officiated. The couple, Monroe High School graduates, will reside on a farm west of town.
Does Things Representative James P Boyd has been in this city part of the week. He is among the best representatives in the last legislature with a record of voting for the people. His re election would make Monroe County furnish the next Speaker and be a source of pride. Mrs J W Gough of Lakenan visited Monroe relatives.
