Frank Losson and Artie E. Wilson have purchased the Crawford & Gilson restaurant. They are described as splendid young men and expected to do well. The Ladies Missionary Society of Grace Baptist Church plans a Friday afternoon meeting with Mrs. S. A. Haru. A Merchants Lunch is available for 15e at Rober's Restaurant.
The sad news reports Rev Joseph M Settle died June 23 at his Hanford home after years of poor health and paralysis. Born in Ralls County he became a respected minister and preacher. He was married to Ella Owen of Perry and is survived by four children and many mourners. He lived a life of faith and service.
Farmers Weekly Market Letter notes mixed cattle receipts easing slightly this week. They report steers mostly up to 930 dollars for top quality, with good types steady and mediums from 700 to 750 dollars. Heifers and cows show various declines, hogs easing 5 to 10 cents, and lambs mostly steady with lamb prices around 8.25 to 8.85 for spring lambs.
Ledru Jaeger fourteen year old son of Mr and Mrs Carl Jaeger of Fayette sustained a painful accident while swimming with friends last week a barbed wire fence caused a severe leg and toe injury. Seventeen stitches were required and he will likely avoid swimming holes for the rest of the summer a card says he is recovering nicely.

Weekly shipments listed for McClintic and Yates, Dawson and Sharp, Tooley Brothers, James Masterson, J H McClintic, Monroe Coal and Grain Co, A L Nash, Henderson and Sons. Monday night about 9:30 the Monroe elevator caught fire and could not be saved. Firefighters protected surrounding property. Cecil Dawson injured but not seriously. The two year old building, valued at $5000, is a total loss with 200 bu corn, 500 bu wheat, 400 bu oats, millet seed and other feed inside. A new electric motor had been installed that day but was damaged. Fire likely started from a hot box in the top of the building. Insurance on building and contents was $3000.
Mrs. Victor Hagan suffered a hip fracture last Sunday while reaching for a drink. Her health had been fragile for years and the injury is considered serious. Dr. Christy of Quincy attended Monday to set the limb.
Judge William H. Wallace of Kansas City addressed a sizable North Park audience Saturday, praising his oratorical ability while noting Missouri favors Senator W J Stone for re election. J J Brown of Monroe City plans a visit with J W Johnston’s family this afternoon. Fulton Daily Sun: Geo T Ridings arrived Friday from Brashear to move his goods here but left for Clarence to visit his sister due to illness.
Byron McFarland proposes deep tillage to 30 inches to improve drainage and root access. Missouri agronomy professor Miller will supervise a six to eight year trial with six plots: two controls, two deep tillage, two tilled with tile, and two deep tillage with tile. If successful, crop yields may rise and soil health improve across agriculture.
Harriet N Stoddart died at 2 a m on June 24 1914. Born June 2 1857 in Knox County Missouri she lived much of her life near Huncewell. She married David H Stoddart on Aug 31 1882. he died years ago. Survived by son William W Stoddart two daughters Lillian Williams and Clyde Thomas a sister Jane Stillians of Quincy and brother Russel Hays of Shelbina. Funeral at 11 a m Friday at DeMuss conducted by Rev W G Alcorn.
Dr. Leo Bell son of Dr and Mrs J H Bell expects to finish an eight year medical course next June at Harvard. He is an industrious ambitious and worthy man a close student and will enter the practice of his chosen profession.
