Winter Thunderstorm Strikes Eau Claire. Lights Fail

A fierce mid winter thunderstorm lashed Eau Claire Wisconsin on Tuesday morning causing chimney damage to the residence of Stephen Maston and roof damage. Brush electric wires were struck and lamp trimmer William Johnson was knocked insensible. McDonough incandescent plant equipment burned and the lights went out. The storm swept from the west and was the year's severest so far.

Thomson Electric Welding Co Develops Cable for Rail Use

The Thomson Electric Welding Company at Lynn reports welding wire cable of one and five sixteenths inches diameter for a cable railroad with high efficiency. Tests at Watertown arsenal show joints at about thirty percent strength of the original cable, while welds reached eighty seven percent of the rope’s efficiency.

Killed by the Cars at Wilmette Crossing

A family of three, J. D. Revell, his wife, and their infant, were killed last night near Wilmette when their buggy was struck by a Chicago and North Western passenger train. The horse died, the buggy was demolished, and the baby was torn from the mother in the fatal accident, which is described as accidental. Also notes unusually warm December weather aiding plowing in Iowa and early spring signs in Ohio.

Farallone Struck by Seas Drowns Five Sailors at Sea

Yaquina City Ore Dec 25 The steam schooner Farallone under Captain Banfield after being towed across the bar was struck by heavy seas. Chief Engineer Pugsley cabin boy and three sailors Frank Johnson Charles Dickinson William Brown drowned while two engineers and firemen survived. All victims were Swedish natives.

Crawford Vindicated in Midland railroad case

In Indianapolis on December 25 Judge Gresham heard the Midland railroad case involving Henry Crawford. Prosecution claimed misrepresentation secured a $138,000 loan against $1,000,000 in bonds, while Crawford’s side argued the suit was improper and not a foreclosure. Testimony favored Crawford and the judge left the case open for possible future receiver action.

Jury acquits Goins in straw verdict case

Lima Ohio December 25 A jury found William Goins not guilty after about twelve hours deliberation in the case of the State of Ohio vs Goins charged as an aider and abettor in the murder of Patrick Hugh two years ago The retrial followed errors during the earlier trial and the jury drew cuts to decide guilt on the first degree charge.
