Henry W Grady died in Atlanta at 3 40 am after a prolonged illness from typhoid pneumonia He had recently left Atlanta to deliver a speech in Boston His message to his mother expressed readiness to die in service to the South He leaves a wife and two children The journalist was born in Athens Ga May 17 1851 and rose from editor of the Commercial to editor at the Atlanta Constitution His 1887 New England Society dinner address as the first Southern speaker since the war boosted his fame

Cincinnati dispatch reports Charles Blythe convicted of murdering Colonel A F E Jones is sentenced by Judge Kumler to be hanged on April 9.
