The jury returned a verdict in the Cronin case, delivering a decision on the fate of the principal defendant. The courtroom crowd awaited the ruling as details of the charges and implications for the parties involved were explained by the presiding judge.
Cronin jury returns verdict at 2 30 pm finding John F Beggs not guilty. Others receive life terms for murder Daniel Coughlin Patrick OSullivan and Martin Burke while John Kunze is sentenced to three years for manslaughter. Jurors express no emotion as they depart.

Henry Crawford appeared in Judge Gresham's court to answer charges of wrecking the Midland road of Indiana. He sought time to prepare but the court granted only that request. An injunction was issued to the Loan & Investment Company to protect bonds and books. Crawford denied irregularities and claimed not to issue more than the deed limit of 1,110,000 in first mortgage bonds. The judge ordered 110,000 in bonds sent to New York owners. Lew Wallace Jr. represented the Investment Company and asked for a receiver. none appointed yet. Next hearing date set for Tuesday week in Indianapolis.
Reports from London describe a massacre of Siberian exiles after a dispute over a petition. Six exiles shot, nine wounded. a court martial condemned survivors to death or long terms. One wounded man carried to the gallows on a bed, which was removed before the noose. Friends call it the worst Siberian massacre. Two robbers lynched by angry farmers near White Rock, Dallas after cotton theft.
In Tucson seven men were acquitted of robbing Paymaster Wham of $26,000 from the U S Army last May. A jury found all defendants not guilty after a lengthy trial that concluded Saturday, ending the case without convictions.
The Supreme Court ruled that a tax on telegraph receipts is unconstitutional, a major win for telegraph companies and their business.
Indianapolis reports the Ohio Indiana and Western railway pay car wrecked three miles east of Covington Indiana when an axle broke. General Superintendent I H Wilson and Trainmaster J M Cummins were instantly killed while five other occupants escaped. The accident followed a long career for Wilson with the line.
The National League filed suit in Philadelphia on December 17 asking an injunction to restrain Hallman and Buffinton from playing with any other club in 1890. It cites costly grounds and grandstand investments and relies on the 1889 reserve contract to claim players are reserved for next season.

Ex change elevator in Burrao New York with 350000 bushels storage and 250000 bushels of barley owned by Green and Bloomer burned Sunday morning. Barley valued at 125000 dollars and the elevator at 100000 dollars with insurance figure unknown. Separately in California Sacramento River high water bursts Johnson levee flooding Sutter County lands and grain losses estimated at 250000 dollars.
In Cloona township Davenport reports 150 cattle dead from smutty corn. Farmers move stock back to pasture as losses mount. Separately in Stanton Nebraska James Rice, a Baden's saloon cook, stabbed Elmer Erwin after he refused a drink, killing him. Rice was arrested.
At Boston sessions the federation authorized assessments up to two cents per member per week on allied bodies to fund a potential strike. It backs disbanding Knights of Labor charters and promoting mixed assemblies under AFL guidance. President Samuel Gompers was re elected, with Detroit chosen for the next meeting.

He and Adelina Patti wed in 1868 at a London Roman Catholic church, then divorced in France in 1884 over disputes about Patti’s money and estate.
