The noted English poet Robert Browning died near Venice at about 10 o clock Thursday night after a long illness. His latest volume, the twenty sixth of his poetry, was published to his satisfaction and drew keen interest for its youthful vigor. Browning, born 1812 in Camberwell, educated at the University of London, and famed for works like Men and Women and The Ring and the Book, left a lasting influence on English literature.
Timorous citizens fear Europe’s influenza epidemic will arrive in New York soon. The Board of Health will not quarantine as the illness is not deemed dangerous under the law. Also two men smothered in sand in Michigan and Washington’s 83 year old Parker dies. Parker helped bring Lafayette carriage into Washington in 1824.
Scupyer Nebraska near Dec 14 Chris Furst and Charles Shephard were arrested Thursday for the murder of C F Pulsifer at Crowell Tuesday night. They confessed and were taken to Fremont under guard.
