Six teen American survivors of the schooner Star of Scotland were landed today at Massamedes in Portuguese Angola, West Africa, after the vessel was torpedoed in the Atlantic on November 13.
London dispatch reports Captain Lord Shuttleworth a 25 year old baron, famed for shooting Nazis, was killed in action in North Africa while serving with the Royal Artillery.
Allied authorities report 450 Japanese killed in the Gona area of New Guinea as forces tighten the noose around enemy troops trapped at the coastal stronghold and nearby Buna.

The USO Clubs and Mount Clemens Board of Commerce urge local residents to buy Christmas gifts for Selfridge Field soldiers. Gifts cost 10 cents to 10 dollars, must exclude sender details, and will be distributed at a Christmas Eve party. About 2000 gifts are needed to ensure each soldier receives one.
In Casablana a naval battle saw five American transports torpedoed and sunk after unloading troops. Casualties were light as troops had already departed. Several destroyers and ships were damaged or destroyed outside the harbor. The battleship Jean Bart also suffered damage but remained capable of firing.
