School district plans more classrooms amid rising enrollment
At Tuesday's school board meeting trustees considered population trends and 8 percent enrollment growth this year. Elementary facilities are strained as 3,003 students compare with 2,791 last year, with more growth expected. Proposals ranged 1.4 to 1.9 million dollars, including moving the fifth grade from Tatum to Sudderth and expanding Edwards and Sudderth cafeterias. The district has about 1.2 million in bond investments. the rest would be capitalized. Nominees for the central appraisal district directors were Houston Branam Kenneth Greb L. B. Jolley and Joe Vandiver. The board also eyed Quail View additions and a Gulf Oil land sale option. Five teachers were approved, including Brenda Scarborough to Tatum.
