A lyric tale imagines a heavenly shore where angels place Ireland by sprinkling star dust to grow shamrocks and silver lakes, naming the land Ireland as the peaceful spot found among the oceans.
Local High School Golden Gloves tournament set for next Tuesday night in the school gym. Six boys from each class will fight in flyweight through heavyweight plus two 60 pounders from the sixth grade. Entries list names for Freshman through Senior classes.
A district court jury found Ferrell J. Stewart guilty of murder for firing five shots into Clarence Austin last October 20. The jury gave a twenty year prison term with no suspended sentence after a two hour, twenty minute trial. Stewart’s self defense plea was denied.
Foundation was poured on Wednesday for the new Christian Church building on south Guad alupe street just north of the Presbyterian Church. The structure will include a fine worship auditorium ten Sunday school rooms and the pastor's study with completion expected this summer.
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Hudler were in El Paso this week on business.
The lower rate will match last year and fund ample irrigation for lawns flowers and trees at nominal cost. A minimum of $2 covers the first 8900 gallons, 25 cents per thousand for the next 4000 gallons, and 15 cents per thousand thereafter.
Monahans troop 63 first aid team placed third in Buffalo Trail Council First Aid contests at Big Spring last Saturday. Sweetwater and Big Spring won first and second. Monahans team scored 983 of 600 points on six problems. Grandfalls and Monahans represented Pecos District.

President A C Bradley first vice president Helena Kay second vice president Anne Lassetter secretary Esta Lou McReynolds treasurer Orvalene Price. Delegates Ibah Lee Browne Minnie Nixon were chosen for Alpine Alpine weekend Trans Pecos Teachers Association. Thirty one new members announced by Rex Keeling and Alice Wright who lead membership.
Dr W D Craddock announces he will open offices in Monahans tomorrow above Cafe. He is widely known in Monahans with years of practice in Alpine and Lovington New Mexico.
Mrs McMurry and her son Freddie left Friday for Dallas to spend several days.
Dr G W Luckey director of car health work state department of health told Ward County Commissioners Court on Monday of a plan to add a sanitarian and clerk to the public health program. A full time health unit would be shared with Wink and Line counties with a director in common and records kept separately. The tentative budget calls for state contribution of one half the expenses for April to June, totaling 1025 with 725 more than current nursing costs.
Superintendent P D Lewis revealed the 1939 Green Wave football schedule after months of adjustments. The slate includes five District 7 A conference games and five hard non conference opponents promising one of the nation’s toughest local schedules. A separate note reports thieves looted tools from the Agey airport hangar digging under the northwest corner.
The West Texas football schedule runs Sept 6 to Nov 30 with Midland elevated to Class AA and Stant 1 moved down. the Green Wave faces Midland at home Sept 6 in a season that marks Midland’s first visit since 1926 and signals a tougher year for the Wave against former conference rival.
Odessa hosts a Sand Hills Hereford Show March 23 24 25 with a caravan of seven cars visiting nearby towns to promote the event. The show is a successor to the Ector County Livestock affair and is sponsored by Hereford breeders producers and local businessmen in the Sand Hills region of West and New Mexico.
Four more names were filed this week by petition as candidates for the Monahans-Wickett School Board, bringing the total to eight. Those added are J. E. Middleton of Monahans L. O. Newton H. W. Davis of Wickett and Hn. Hostetler of Wickett. Davis says he is not a candidate for re election. Four members will be elected April 1 for two year terms. Filing deadline is March 2.
Mr and Mrs Charles Marsh have returned to Monahans after visiting relatives and friends in Fort Worth.
Grandfalls Town Council invites bids to build a 36000 water works system, with award set for March 24. Bids must include payment terms of 12000 in tax bonds and 24000 in revenue bonds, plus system specifications. Town Attorney R B Rawlins led the meeting where two contractors proposed bond purchases and construction.
Wave Gridders enter the second week of spring conditioning under Coach Ike Hanscom. Roster growth is expected to reach about forty as added candidates train in fundamentals and rough scrimmaging. Track athletes will join soon. Head Coach Roger Cundiff to arrive by April 1 to assume duties.
A Rotary Club panel led by H. P. Cooper and Herbert Hudler with two to be named will work with city officials on the annual April clean up campaign planned for next month.
The Softball Association met at the high school to finalize plans for the upcoming season. The Board of Trustees authorized use of the high school field and lights for summer league games. One sponsor for Monahans is secured, with a second possible, and teams from Grandfalls Royalties Wickett Wink and Kermit are expected to participate.
Mr and Mrs Peter Powell returned to their home in Wickett Monday from El Paso.
A new Soil Conservation Service field office to supervise a 21 000 000 acre Trans-Pecos area is set up in Marfa Texas. Paul H Walser states the Trans-Pecos Sub-Area will operate under the Edwards Plateau Area with duties across El Paso Hudspeth Culberson Jett Davis Reeves Presidio Brewster Pecos Terre]] counties and Loving Ward counties. George M Morris named to lead Marfa office and oversee Toyah Creek Watershed project with Balmorhea as project HQ.

Rotary members met to discuss exploiting the sand hill area northeast of Monahans. The site has drawn local interest due to frequent discoveries of human skeletons horse bones and wagon train debris suggesting a potential historical find through a systematic search.
Washington announces no new post offices will be funded for the 1940 fiscal year. The decision ends plans for the Mana nans structure valued at about 76 000 dollars and questions over future construction in this region.
Ward County Commissioners moved county home demonstration agent Esther Bradshaw from Barstow to the old Methodist church on South Minor Street in Monahans and agent John L Mogford to the Tubb Building across from the County Attorney. Judge Snelson said the move locates both agents near other officers for farmers and ranchers.

City Council approves land purchase for a five acre site on Hoxie Street three blocks south of Sealy Avenue for a 50 by 150 foot pool with 12 foot depth, dressing houses, landscaped grounds, and drainage irrigation to flower beds. Officials expect pool revenue from swim fees and concessions to cover the project costs.
The Fire Department will now alert the siren via the telephone office rather than through Jimmy's Cafe. On Monday, supervisor Bill Portwood of the Texas Electric Company supervised moving the switch to the telephone office. Firehouse phone booths will relay fire locations directly from the office, and firefighters should assemble at the station house in future.
Coach Keeling and wife Rex Keeling announce the birth of their daughter Judy Ann last Friday afternoon. Mother and baby are reported doing well.
Sam Winkler left this week on a business trip to California and plans to be away for three weeks. He will be zoned for the duration of the travel window.

Local sportsmen and landowners in Monahans plan to form a chapter of the Permian Basin Game and Fish Protective Association. A meeting is set at 8 p.m. in the high school building to establish a permanent unit and recruit members from nearby Wink, Kermit, Pyote, and Wickett areas. Johnny E. Smith was named temporary chairman as organizers push for formalization next Tuesday night.
