Operation Clean Sweep praised as most complete town effort

A. G. Adair notes Mona hans led the community cleanup described as the most complete effort yet. Officials credit widespread cooperation and urge ongoing work to beautify vacant lots and alleys as a horse development issue emerges, with continued drive hoped beyond Wednesday.

Presbyterians' Vacation Church School Starts Today

Vacation Church School begins this morning at First Presbyterian Church with daily sessions from 9 to 11 through Friday. Rev. Fred A. Ryle says classes run for all children through the Eighth Grade to review past Sunday School material and set the basis for next year. No pre-registration is needed.

Explorer Scouts Meet Tomorrow in Monahans

A meeting of all Explorer Scouts, Advisors and Committee men and interested residents is set for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, in the Fellowship Hall of the Methodist Church. The aim is to jump start Explorer activities locally and, if needed, organize additional posts.

Fireworks Display Planned at Monahans Sandhills Park

The Special Events Committee of the Chamber of Commerce sponsors a July 5 fireworks show at Monahans Sandhills State Park. Walt Roeber chairs. no personal fireworks allowed. police and sheriff officials enforce restrictions. The Monahans Volunteer Fire Department will discharge the show with city police and county deputies managing parking. Gate fee is 50 cents per car. after 7 30 p.m. proceeds go to the Chamber to offset production costs. Roeber says the 1965 display will be much larger with extra fireworks.

Miss Castle Gap named for Mona teen at McCamey event

Charlotte Davidson an 18 year old daughter of Mr and Mrs H G Davidson of Mona hans was crowned Miss Castle Gap during McCamey s 40th anniversary celebration. The pageant highlighted Castle Gap south of Crane once used by immigrant trains and rumored to be the burial site of gold from Emperor Maximilian s train.

Cancer Crusade Chairman praises county workers

Ward County Cancer Crusade Chairman W. H. Agey reports total contributions reached 2044 dollars. Though the campaign is over, donations may still be sent to Treasurer-Memorial Chairman Mrs. Odell Newton. Agey lauded all communities for a job well done and thanked volunteers and donors for a successful year.

Official Observer John Rogers recorded .11 inch of rain Friday night. The rainfall this year rose to 6.70 inches as of the shower.

One Issue for Week of July 4 Observed

The newspaper will publish only one issue the week of July 4 due to Independence Day observances. Regular Monday and Thursday editions are combined into a single issue on Wednesday July 7.

Right Of Way Talks Focus On I 20 Frontage Roads

City Council meets to secure right of way along the north side of Interstate 20 for frontage roads from the east city limits to the west. Negotiations with a local church over 0.75 acre and with Hahn Westerfield and Sewell over a drainage project are central. County Judge Toon Estes offered county labor and equipment, with consent to pursue three years for ditch and pit work, while funding remains the obstacle.

Lt Governor Preston Smith To Speak Here

Lt Governor Preston Smith will be guest speaker at a Lions Club luncheon in the Century Room Farr's Restaurant. A 10 38 a m to moon open house will follow at the Texas Electric Service Company Reddy Room to meet Smith. The 59th Legislature honored his leadership with a unanimous Senate resolution.

Hold Bang Bang Fireworks Ban Inside City limits

City ordinance states it is illegal to shoot fireworks within city limits. Violations may result in fines or penalties under municipal code. Authorities urge residents to use approved displays at licensed venues or permitted events only.

Monahans Woman Elected State VFW Auxiliary President

Priscilla E. Webb of Monahans was chosen president of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Texas at the El Paso state convention. Webb has held nearly every office from local to state, led district duties in 1960, and earned a life Home membership while planning a Civil Defense focus. Her son Major Luther A. Webb, USAF, and family attended the installation with other local VFW members and relatives.
