Loyd Hawkins, owner of Hawkins Motor Co. and Loyd's Pontiac of Monahans, was found dead on his ranch between Grand Falls and Pyote after suffering a heart attack. Morris Nichols recounts horror at Sanderson flood
Morris Nichols, 22, son of L D Nichols of Mora Hans, rode out the Sanderson wall of water that killed the Johnson family. He helped try to save children, watched the cabin crumble, lost his grip, and later found two Johnson children dead. He was treated at Fort Stockton and released. By morning 16 bodies were recovered with about 10 still missing.

District Court Ends Two More Cases Settled
The district court finished two compensation cases Thursday after already settling three earlier in the week. Albert Gilmore vs Transport Insurance settled before trial. Edgar M. Pittsford vs Traders and General Defendants went to a jury, which awarded Pittsford $14,035, the maximum allowed by law, for a total permanent disability from a job accident with Hillin Drilling Co. Pittsford now resides in Odessa, formerly a Monahans barber.

Pyote Residents Injured in US 80 Collision
Mr and Mrs W L Bearden and Mrs Mona Ruth Hudson of Pyote were injured when their pickup collided with another vehicle just west of Odessa on US 80 last Wednesday afternoon. All three received treatment at Odessa hospital and were not seriously hurt.
