About 150 people from more than 45 Monahans firms will attend the Patterson Customer Relations and Sales Clinic at First Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Frank A. Grand Jury Indicts Two For Firing Trailer Home

Ward County grand jury indicted Charles Hardin and Eugene Summers on assault with intent to murder arson and conspiracy to commit arson for a May 24 incident in which they fired pistol shots and tossed a Molotov cocktail into Tommy Fletcher’s trailer home on South Highway 18. Fletcher was uninjured but the trailer was destroyed. Hardin bond $5000 Summers bond $4500 both jailed. Additional indictments include Theron Otto Garrison Jr. on kidnapping with bond $2500 and others facing charges of fondling a minor receiving stolen property with bonds ranging from $1000 to $1500.

Girl Scout Day Camp Opens Monday Near Interstate 20

The camp will run daily from 6 30 to 11 30 a m about three miles south of I 20 starting Monday. About 60 girls registered with space for more. All ages welcome even non Scouts. Rain totals rise as showers span Wednesday

John Rogers, official weather observer, recorded 0.42 inch of rain in on again off again showers Wednesday. The added moisture brings the year’s total to 5.77 inches. Tuesday night saw light moisture in town with heavier rains reported to the south and at Royalty and Grandfalls.

Three District Court Cases Cleared This Week

Three cases reached disposition in district court by Wednesday through settlements or trial. Charley Teasley vs Greyhound Bus Lines settled before jury selection. Eugene Carman vs B J Service settled as jury was chosen. Fred Burk vs Robert Jackson went to trial and the jury returned a verdict for the defendant.

Ten Damages Suits Filed Against Border Construction Co

Ten residents filed damage suits in the 143rd District Court against Border Construction Co seeking $19,600 in actual damages and $150,000 in exemplary damages each. Plaintiffs allege blasting during Interstate 20 construction fractured walls and foundations and damaged water wells in the town's southern area by allowing brackish water to infiltrate usable water, with attorney Murray Howze noting more suits may follow.

Community groups back Operation Clean Sweep campaign

Civic Clubs, Boy Scouts and the Boys Club pledge support as plans near for the Annual Clean-Up Drive. Five divisions include Old Buildings, Vacant Lots, Alleys, Dead Trees and General Clean-Up with Rotary, Lions, Jaycees and Kiwanis coordinating tasks. Local hardware dealers urged to offer specials to aid volunteers and property owners to spruce up buildings before summer site selection.
