Coach Roger Cundiff will lead a tentative summer recreation program for school age boys at the High School athletic field and gym. Daily tennis, softball elimination with prizes, weekly swimming by bus to Wink or Pecos until Monahans pool opens, and Scout classes with advancement tests are planned.
Davis of Wink captured the championship after defeating W G Hayter in the final with a 9th hole cup. Hayter’s drives and strong game carried him to the final, while Davis topped Newman and Barron to reach the decisive match. Elton Dozier won the championship consolation as Fred A Robinson and Herbert Hudler claimed first and second flight consolations.
Professor Charles G. Walker and Mrs. Walker will depart tomorrow for California. He will enroll at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles to study this summer. They expect to return to Monterey late in the summer after a San Francisco exposition visit.
Funeral services for Dan Roberts were held at Welter Harwell Funeral Home Monday afternoon. Interment followed in Monahans Cemetery.
The City-Wide Vacation Bible School runs this week and next with the Life of Christ as the theme. Rev. W. R. Mann of Midland leads the program at the High School from 8:30 to 11 each morning, featuring scripture memory, hymns, stories, crafts, dramatizations, and games. Enrollment reaches 140 pupils and teachers across four departments.
Robert L. Ripley famed for Believe It or Not arrives in Monahans from Carlsbad for a noon luncheon and 1 PM public address at the high school stadium. District Attorney Bil Kerr to host. KITM radio plans remote broadcast. Ripley’s trip ties to a Pecos eye witness broadcast at 8:30 tonight.
Funeral held at First Methodist Church Midland for Mrs Nancy West born February 14 1846 oldest Midland resident long time nurse and pioneer. Survived by five children W A Vest Monahans John Vest Roswell Doc Vest Carlsbad A E Vest Coolidge and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Henry Sears lectured at the Rotary luncheon on Ward County s top products focusing on gasoline and oil. Visiting Rotarians included Whit Waide Wesley May Judge J A Crane Bill Kerr of Pecos and Ralph Clark of Odessa. Bill Coghill and Roy Downey were guests.
Dr Sia C Harrell announces his office has moved into the new Tubb building and is now located over the Monzohans Drug Store. He was previously upstairs from the Home Appliance Store.
Jewelry store managers in Monahans sign an agreement to close at 7:00 P M. The change took effect Monday and applies to Ollie Bruton Shaw's and the T L Miller Jewelry.
Mr and Mrs Jack Scarboro and children Virginia Anne and Jane left for Ardmore Oklahoma. Scarboro has directed the Fox Rig and Lumber Company for years. Clay Pitchford of Kermit is named the new Fox Rig manager in town.
Bids were opened for a five acre municipal pool and park site on south Hoxie street. Grading and leveling will begin soon, with construction to start after contract award. The project includes deep and shallow pools, diving areas, showers, and all necessary equipment.
Sul Ross of Alpine to face Texas Wesleyan of Fort Worth in a college football game at Monahans the night of October 14. Both teams show similar pass records and have split their last three meetings with a 7 to 7 tie last year. Local businessmen have underwritten the event.

Earl Estes Monahansas postmaster has been ill for several months and is in a local hospital for treatment. His condition was reported satisfactory Thursday morning.
A Fort Stockton event on June 9 and 10 will showcase swimming and diving actions at Comancho's pool as plans for a city pool project proceed. The city council fast tracked a bid for pool construction on South Hoxie Street with surveyors completing levels and stakes.
Season tickets priced at five dollars go on sale June 12 at four downtown drug stores for general admission and reserved seats in the new east steel section covering all eight home games. The slate includes top 7-A games with night play, key showdowns against Midland AA Bulldog and Roscoe Plow, and a November 24 clash with Crane’s Golden Cranes.
Miss Marion Hz Harris of Monahans, daughter of Mr and Mrs C A Harris, will receive a Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of Texas commencement in June. Information from University officials at Austin confirms the degree award.
Fred Blumentritt was discharged from a San Angelo hospital this week after undergoing an appendectomy. He received post operative care and is reported in good condition.
