Pecos attorney Jerry McGowen announces his bid for district attorney of the 143rd Judicial District which includes Reeves Ward and Loving Counties. Born in Monahans he moved to Pecos in 1964 and graduated from Pecos High School. He attended Texas A&M University and was active in student affairs. Continued on page 3.

Bowden Seeks Ward County Commissioner Precinct Three

J H Bowden seeks the Ward County Commissioner spot in Precinct Three in the May 3 Democratic Primary. After Cisco Junior College he moved to Ward County in 1951 and worked four years as a welder for Freeman Welding. In 1959 he bought Freeman Welding and expanded the business over 21 years. New hospital lab equipment arrives at Ward Memorial

Ward Memorial Hospital began receiving new lab equipment in early January. Lab Supervisor Carol Hill explained how a flame photometer, a total carbon dioxide analyzer, and a spectrophotometer assess a patient electrolyte panel and metabolic state. The new instruments replace aging devices to speed tests for potassium, sodium, chloride, uric acid, cholesterol, and calcium, aiding diagnosis and treatment decisions.

SWB to negotiate with commish over hospital Dimension 100 price

Representatives from Southwestern Bell will present Monday to the commissioners court about a large cost increase for the Dimension 100 system at Ward Memorial Hospital. The 1979 quoted price was 31,035.47 dollars. a later figure nears 46,000. The debate involves contract status, rate increases from the PUC, and potential verbal agreements. The meeting also covers Barstow Irrigation District No. 3 director appointments and bids as the agenda continues.

Typing Class Set for Tuesday at Local High School

Superintendent Jim Jordan announced Friday that enough people have signed up to form a night typing class. The course begins Tuesday January 29 at 7 p.m. in Room 220, lasts 15 weeks, and costs $20 with registration Tuesday night.

Monahans Plans Projected Sewer Charge Increases

The city seeks grants from the Texas Water Resources Department and EPA to upgrade the wastewater plant and design an irrigation system for ball fields, park, cemetery, and golf course. The plan may raise operating costs and prompt a re evaluation of the sewer rate schedule. Projected monthly charges reach 3.54 dollars for single family and 8.75 dollars for commercial users. Ward County 4-H Food Show Winners Named

The Ward County 4-H Food Show at Tatum Elementary drew 38 youth and named senior representatives Lisa Thomason for main dish and Elizabeth Wood for side dish to advance to the District Food Show. Alternates are Barbara Higginbottom and Robin Woods. In the junior division four 4-Hers advance: Dacon Harris, Kay Harkey, Cindy Dain.
