Two infants born just after midnight at Northside Hospital welcomed by parents Jerry Lewis and Nelson Goddard. Baby boys, sons of Evans families, arrived within hours of New Year’s Day as health staff reported the early births and family celebrations.
The Monahans project will front 52 feet on Sealy Avenue and run 70 feet deep, with structural glass fronts planned for the first floor. The Hub store will widen by two feet in the new building and the second floor will offer office space. Construction is slated to begin after January 15 under contractor B Malett, with J B Tubb as owner.
Part of Ward County's official family for 1939-40 begins functioning. five officers shown above will have prominent roles. County Judge Fred P. Snelson starts his fourth term, County Attorney Tom Neel begins his tenth year, County Clerk Mrs. Ira M. Morris is in her first political office, and County Democratic Chairman G. Q. Walker is a long-time executive. Sheriff F. Irby Dyer holds the longest tenure, and other officers include Treasurer Mrs. Betty Martin, and Surveyor H. V. Carr. New officers take oaths. those with consecutive terms sworn in Monday.
S. Ross Carr has been appointed to the junior accountant post in the Midland office of the Railroad Commission. He is from a pioneer Ward County family and has lived in Monahans for several years. Mrs. Carr will join him in Midland this week.
Miss Wilma Cloudt begins duty as Ward County Health Nurse with offices in the old Methodist Church on south Minor street acting as temporary courthouse Judge Snelson said. The role includes nursing schools countywide, disease control education, maternal and child health, infant care, school health advice and crippled children's work with funding split between Ward County and state and federal sources.
Edward F. Duffey of Monahans has been named superintendent of production for the Intercoast Petroleum Corporation. Intercoast recently purchased the Eppenauer holdings in the West Texas Permian Basin for 1,960,000 pounds. The executive center will be in Midland with operations overseen by J. A. McDermott.
Ward County farmers have received 16821.82 in cotton subsidy payments for 1937. This amount is about three fourths of the total due, according to county agent John Mugford. Notices will be mailed to growers as checks arrive.
City attorney V Earl Earp filed suits against several delinquent city tax payers in line with City Council action last month to pursue legal steps against all persons whose taxes through 1936 are in arrears.
Arthur Robinson has returned to Centralia Illinois where he is employed by the Oil Well Supply Company.
Gary L Finch established as local Pontiac dealer. He returned from Dallas with a demonstrator on display at his service station inviting motorists to view the 1939 Pontiac.
Dr L O Rogers of Austin takes over the practice of Dr W Rehmeyer who is in New York City for post graduate study. Rehmeyer plans to return to Monahans around February 1.
G O Walker county chair of the Democratic Committee urges broad participation in the Jackson Day banquet at the Baker Hotel Dallas on Saturday night. A $2 subscription buys admission with a group option to pool up to 25 dollars for a representative attendee. William O Douglass will be on the pro arm. Ward county is urged to contribute to support national party campaign funds.
The Monahans High School group returned early Tuesday from El Paso and the Sun Bowl Carnival. Chaperones were P D Lewis and W S Ely. Charles G Walker led the band. Greer and Keeling coached football players. Miss Bradshe oversaw the pep squad. Over 20 bands competed. Pecos won first, with Wink second and Eutis third.
