I report on Pecos Chamber of Commerce support for the New Deal era N R A and the blanket code, plus their Red Bluff Dam project push. Monahans Lions Club shows similar civic vigor, leading local efforts to improve the community and spur development alongside Pecos.
Officials of the Texas Electric Service Company announce alignment with the presidents recovery plans and indicate they will implement the NRA blanket code for minimum wages and maximum hours for accounting clerical and office staff. The electric industry code has been submitted and will be enacted for all employees upon approval.
Dr W O Rehmeyer came back last Sunday after a weeklong stay in Dallas, resuming his professional duties and engagements locally.
The funeral for Mrs. J R Holman 75 who died August 3 was held at the family home with Rev Tra Harrison of the First Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed at the local cemetery. Living children attended and pallbearers included J E Starley and Charles Edwards among others. Funeral arrangements were by Pecos Furniture Co Pecos.
Tuesday evening at the Hayes home in Monahans a free school party honored Allene and Jim Hayes and Milford Harrison. About fifty school children attended with Miss Lucille Hayes as chaperone. The event featured games and refreshments for all attendees.
Austin reports Texas counties have organized into campaign units to back a constitutional amendment allowing the legislature to issue relief bonds up to 20 million dollars. Campaign leaders stress bonds will not raise home or farm taxes and highlight federal funding feeding 1,270,000 Texans.
A local newspaper offers subscriptions at $1.50 per year. The ad invites readers to join and support regional reporting. It emphasizes hometown coverage and community updates to attract longtime residents and new subscribers.
M. J. Sherwood of the Sherwood Grocery Market purchased the A. J. Williams residence on South Minor street for rental property. Leslie Johnson family now occupies the home while the Williams relocate to Odessa to join an oil firm. Friends regret their departure.

Mrs Bailey and Mrs Spruill hosted the Baptist Sunday School Intermediate class as they staged A Cold Day In August at the church on Thursday evening. The room featured green shrubs snow icicles and a cold water spring. Boys hemmed aprons for the girls who tied their ties. A fake wedding with Navaline Hurst as bride and Henry Wurtz as her escort unfolded. Roy Beavers played bridegroom while B F Wylie acted as best man and life saver. Carolyn Johnson served as minister as bridesmaids flower girls ring bearer moved in to a wedding march. Ice cream and cake refreshments followed.

Emil Holmdahl, noted soldier of fortune, denies Pancho Villa beheading claims as political intrigue. He states Villa reportedly still has his head. Holmdahl, now involved in building commercial divisibles in Virginia, plans a Mexico trip for business.
A district meeting of ten counties met in the high school auditorium to hear lectures on the Transportation and Rural Aid Law by deputy superintendent Bickley of the Texas Education Department. He covers twenty two counties from Big Spring to El Paso and will locate centrally by September 15 to aid rural and independent districts. The State Superintendent L A Woods created twenty two districts with a deputy over each to improve efficiency and reduce taxpayer costs.
Mrs H W Bland spent Monday in Pecos on business matters, meeting local contacts and inspecting commerce opportunities. Her visit highlighted active commercial exchange between Pecos and visitors from other regions.
Harry Fielding has been appointed to the post office, filling the vacancy left by Burton Morris who recently departed. Fielding assumes duties as the department reshapes its local operations.
Harold B. Eudaly, Barstow county tax assessor, was a business visitor here on Monday.
Monahans public schools ready to open on September 4 with 13 teachers, remodeled classrooms, new drinking fountains and showers, a fenced yard, and a modern Home Economics department led by Mrs. Prentiss Long. Supt. Summerhill seeks accreditation upgrades including Spanish affiliation and additional credits. The public may tour facilities 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with supervision.
The Wink Lions defeated the Monahans Lions 21 to 20 last Thursday at Wink High School. A key seventh inning homer cleared the bases to break the Monahans lead. Wink aims to face Midland Lions today and hosts an after game ice cream supper for visitors.
The Jolly Time Bridge Club gathered at the home of Mr and Mrs Henry Cook for a Thursday night event with bridge and gossip and refreshments. About 1000 attendees enjoyed an opening dance and free barbecue at Crystal Wells four miles east of Barstow on Highway 80. R T Stribling owns Crystal Wells and recently funded a modern open air pavilion and praised the crowd size.
The Monahans Lions Club welcomed H. E. Carter of Elite Cleaners as a new member at last Thursday's regular luncheon. Members discussed helping the school build a modern tennis court and planned fund raising entertainment to support local community needs.
Bis says people claimed he had more money than brains but he declares that is no longer true as he is down to his last dime and Cris asks why.
The $2,600,000 Red Bluff water and power district hearing date in Washington was fixed by Public Works Administrator Waite, per a telegram from Rep. R. E. Thomason now in El Paso. Thomason told Pecos so Red Bluff supporters could pressure in Washington, with hopes of Red Bluff representatives attending the hearing.
Mrs. E. S. James and her sons Jack and Eugene and daughter in law Mrs. Paul Crouch returned Wednesday from Dodge City Kansas where they carried Mrs. A. M. Crow to a specialist for medical treatment.
The hearing on the 1933 34 city budget compiled by Fred Agee, auditor, will be held at city hall Saturday morning August 12 at 10 o clock. Anyone may inspect the budget and attend. The budgets show the city’s complete financial structure and income sources.
The Monahans School Board will receive bids for a bus driver from today until August 5 at 7 30 p m. Bids must be sealed and delivered to D C Sudderth Secretary at Corner Drug Store. The board may reject any or all bids.
