Moline history across a growing river city and its people
A 1879 reminiscence in Moline Review recounts early town origins from 1836 along the Mississippi bluff, noting key figures Joel Wells, Mrs Wilshire, and early settlers. It recalls voting precincts in 1844, the rise of industry and crafts, and a view of the city’s steady growth without gambling or speculative schemes, praising labor and prudence.

Politically charged clippings on Illinois and national figures
A Republican leaning critique scatters across state politics and national figures. It argues Illinois as naturally Democratic yet shows Nebraska gains for Republicans. It notes Grant nomination optimism, Greenback talk for 1880, and satirical editorials about Grant imagery and penology theories, ending with crops and prices.
