In Muscatine a dirt load uncovered a tin can with gold coins totaling 191 dollars and 30 cents. Coins include $5, $10, $20 pieces and three silver dimes. one coin bears the 1888 date. The money was buried in a cocoanut shell under gooseberry bushes on property formerly owned by Chris Kegel, raising questions of rightful ownership.
Consumers are assured a refund if the medicine fails to cure. Each box bears E. W Grove's signature. Sold by druggists for 25 cents.
On Wednesday P F Cox settled with two township collectors. Andalusia reported charged 4315.30 and balance due 3221.17. Coal Valley shows charged 4037.34 with balance due 5684.77. The document also includes a notarized oath by Frank J Cheney of F J Cheney & Co promising a reward for catarrh cure and promotion of Hall's Catarrh Cure and Hall's Family Pills.
The tax collector announces an office in the Moline National Bank building rear room with hours from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Wednesdays and Saturdays until 9 p.m., urging prompt tax payments by all residents. John H Peters is the collector.
