In France near Chateau Thierry American troops attacked after a heavy bombardment at Badonville and nearby woodlands. German forces split into two groups but American units advanced, took prisoners, and inflicted casualties in renewed ferocious fighting.
Paris reports that American troops captured about one hundred Germans in the Belleauweed fighting last night in a bold attack. French raiders succeeded and German assaults were repulsed, according to the war office announcement.
Italian forces push a counter offensive in the mountains after driving Austro-Hungarian troops back across the Piave. The war office reports 1,333 prisoners taken at Motte Di Val Bella and gains in the Grappa sector, while Austrian claims include 50,000 Italian prisoners and 150,000 Italian losses.
An American army unit enters the battle line north of Gobweiler in the Vosges district, in Alsace, as American forces move through France during ongoing fighting.
