Constable James Mallory shoots Brack Vanwickle in the arm after a remark about Mallory's daughter. The wound is serious but not life threatening. The incident occurred on a street near Cairo where Aliosus and Gertie Waller were noted observers. Local authorities investigate the altercation and motive.
The event at Elks Hall featured a Fayette quartet led by Dd Dickerson and WQ Smith who performed Annie Laurie after an orchestral opening. Nat Baker of Kansas City gave a moving talk on benevolence praising the B P O E. Forest Cleveland and local singers provided entertainment while guests enjoyed multiple servings of ice cream cake and strawberries.
After supper the younger element of the Elks and some older members repaired to the Mayblower hall where several hours were spent in dancing. The only Zeiler Elk orchestra provided the music, a feature in keeping with the first part. The scene was lovely to behold and will be remembered fondly by participants for years.
A Sunday mission begins next week at John’s Catholic Church with two priests leading services one being Rev Father Nugent former Kenrick Seminary president. The event is expected to draw strong interest and benefit the church, following Catholic mission practice similar to Protestant revivals.
Joseph Clarke states the electric road project will begin soon along the line from Miller's park with rails cleared and extended. He cites a $100,000 budget, says negotiations over water works cost more, and promises construction contractor Jenkins will arrive Monday to move the project forward despite delays.
Mrs Harry Norton will entertain the Home Mission Society of Mt Iseharen tomorrow after noon from 2 to 5 at her Wert Tindalace home. There will be a welfare offering taken for a Home in Unedia. Refreshments will be served.
Supt J and Goodrich reported lost on No 20 while brakeman James Blee and fireman JT Cameron were laid off for sickness. Ballast train operated east end to High Mill and Jonesburg. Mrs W E M Colusen left for Chicago. McCaskey improved after north trip. Conductor teams departed for Portland to attend O R C convention. Engine 319 faced a late arrival on No 6. derailment slight on engine 38 rear tanks at Danreath Iowa. Clara Galbreath, Wabash graduate, moved to Brunswick as stenographer. Chas Sherbondy and wife mentioned.
St Louis visitor returns from Tiveman McGee family on South Clark. Wabash agent L S McClellan arrives. Gov Mackwell sick after heat. Al Short buys Baker & Goons restaurant stake and enjoys railroad ties. A train box theft at Kansas City Union depot yields a dime note to Conductor Church. Sells & Downs circus draws big crowds as it tours.
A Knights of Columbus special meeting is scheduled for 8 p m Friday at Curran and Noonan Hall for business of importance. W C Golinger of Gettysburg S D visited with her nephew T P T Bolinger and family of South Williams Street and Felix Hughes, recently at university in Chicago, arrived for a several day visit with his sister Mrs T N Magruder.
