In Chillicothe on Monday Democrats won all local seats. Ace Hirsh was elected mayor after previous terms. Maurice Dorney was re elected police chief. Zibo Myers chosen councilman at large and Hank Ashby named city attorney.
W Bacon who ran the Chard Central Hotel on West Clanton street died in Golden Colorado last week. He will be remembered by old-timers as a fine chess player and whistler. He leaves a daughter Mrs Rose in Redland California and another Mrs Powell in Denver.
Early morning incident at the yard office lunch room followed by a gasoline liquid release and coffee urn explosion injuring J. D. Cleveland and Pred Myers. Firefighters contained the blaze. repairs and better service anticipated. Also notes a marriage: Verrence Johnson weds Frances Manuel in Paris with details of travel and home. Christian Endeavor Union gathers at U. M. GC for attendance banner.
Herman Lotter and Miss Mio Yan Glovy will be united in marriage at the bride’s mother's home in Maroon by Rev. Caldwell. After the ceremony the couple will tour for two weeks then begin housekeeping in a newly furnished home near South Williams Street. Lotter works at Mochantan Savings Bank and is regarded as reputable. The bride-to-be is described as cultured and highly regarded, with best wishes pouring in from friends and family.
Dr Slernitzauer sent a book covering his debt amount to Jasper Baker owner of the Operanto after leaving town with his buggy still unpaid. Word spread that he planned to settle the buggy soon as possible. Mrs WM Porter, longtime city resident, died at Huntsville this morning of general debility in old age. Funeral set for 10 a m tomorrow.
Harve Baker sold his interest in Baker & Coons restaurant to Al Short this afternoon. Baker & Coons previously purchased the business from W Harrington. Short has extensive experience in the trade and will partner with Coons to run a strong team. Baker remains undecided about his future plans.
Local items include Mrs B Johnson of Clark, A Hamilton of Ronick in the Magic City, Miss Anna Zalil returning to work, Ernest Miller back from St Louis for a ball, Will Buselek resigning at Wayland's bakery to return to St Louis, Mrs Frank Griffin's mother returning home, and stray notices about a strawberry receipt and a theatre event at Plalloran's Theatre. Also mentions a Line County budget quip and horse buyer wisdom from a Linn county farmer.
The remains of Ed Dulaney who died in Macon were transported to Moberly for funeral services at Central Christian church conducted by Rev. Taylor and Rev. Haynes. A large crowd attended and floral tributes were abundant. Burial followed at Oakland cemetery. Dulaney and cousin John Astwood had opened a Macon restaurant a week earlier, ending their partnership.
Washington reports the case against treasury clerk C L Blanton over alleged fraud in choosing government building sites will be dropped citing risk of implicating high officials. Dispatch says action will align with treasury leaders and Blanton may be restored to duty as mail clerk in the supervising architect’s office.
