New York report says Rudyard Kipling’s year old daughter Josephine died yesterday morning after a week of illness from pneumonia. The news will be kept from Mr Kipling to spare him distress in his weakened condition.
A crafty con man posing as a glove cleaner salesman deceived Chillicothe and nearby merchants by showing fake letters from druggists and a bogus one year advertisement contract. One west side druggist bought six dozen packages for about five dollars each before the scheme was uncovered. Local merchants warned surrounding towns to beware of the fraud.
Columbia Mo March 7 The Missouri University faculty declined a strike citing funding risks if the Legislature fails to provide five years of support They deny threatening letters and say they have no intent to oppose the university or its allies while remaining silent about current legislative action

Ray Fleming found a man badly injured near the Wabarh trace east of Jefferson Street crossing. The stranger, identified as J. F. L. Doury of Owensboro Kentucky, died about two hours after arrival at the city hospital. He said he rode an east bound Wabash freight at 9 pm intending to jump. He claimed a wife and five children and that he came from Kansas City to work on a Madison farm.
A barber in Louisiana cuts off his nose with a razor while shaving his face. His quick thinking leads him to reattach the severed tissues using his own discarded parts, but a later hurried misassembly causes a permanent mix up. He laments the sole inconvenience of needing to remove his boot to sleep.

The Western Stars a musical organization under Mrs A F Smith and Miss Solomo Loar performed Saturday evening at Park Theatre to a large fashionable audience. Little Hortense Smith hosted a box party for her Sunday school class with Misses Brawington Brown Conlon Kubler Wilson and Davidson. Gratitude is due to Mrs Smith and Miss Lear for the pleasant entertainment and a return engagement is booked for a course of three attractions with a cordial welcome expected.

Springfield jail holds Charlon Alderman after a cruel prank on Joseph Sheller triggers a charge of jail time. Alderman allegedly phoned from Nice Christian County to warn of a death, prompting Sheller to bury a pretend corpse. The prank backfired when the law cited a hotel theft, keeping Alderman confined for thirty days. An unrelated classified ad for carpet sales appears at the end.
