A deputy sheriff and about fifteen passengers detained a passenger train west of Sioux Falls for nearly two hours while pursuing a former Salem clothing store robber who escaped from a handcuffed compartment. The fugitive leapt from a moving car and vanished. search efforts failed.
Sioux Falls S D Sept 18 Judge Jos. granted a temporary injunction preventing the Rock Island Railroad from withdrawing its freight agreement with the South Dakota Central. The order, bonded for 10000, aims to keep grain shipments moving as the South Dakota Central builds a Sioux Falls to Colton line and prepares thousands of carloads for shipment this fall.
Jacob Adrian, a Turner county farmer near Silver Lake, fought off three armed men who demanded 400 dollars after a grain sale. Sons fired shots, one robber was seen to fall but rescued by companions. Residents, previously plagued by thefts, now patrol armed to drive hoboes from the area. Local holdups claim shoes, clothing, meats, and a fire set near Dolton.
