Joshua Slater, 55, a Civil War veteran and Methodist parishioner, died after months of illness. funeral at the Methodist church with G A R attendance. Both burials at Graceland Cemetery mark a period of shared sorrow for families and friends.
Mrs C W Boggs received a telegram from Sioux Falls announcing the death of her sister Mrs A R Boggs during the night. Ill health followed the death of her husband in winter. She had been in Sioux Falls months earlier, fell seriously ill, and died. The remains arrived from Sioux Falls Tuesday and funeral services were held Wednesday at 10 o clock.
Mrs. Frank B. Smith hosted a light afternoon reception at her home from 3:30 to 6:30 with an orchestra, flowers, and candlelit rooms. Guests included numerous society ladies led by Mrs. Geo. M. Rowley and Mrs. F. P. Stearns, with helpers Miss Jessie Walrath and others.
A group of young ladies gathered at Mrs W A Barber's home on Thursday for an evening of music readings and games. Refreshments were served and guests departed content with the pleasant social occasion.
Alderman Stout improves his residence on the south side by painting the house. The professor notes the home’s attractiveness will rise further as the trees mature.
