Selina and Selmer Olson, youths aged 14 and 16, killed a giant eagle near their farm after it attacked their dog. Armed with shotgun and rifle, they fired repeatedly until the eagle’s wing broke and a final blow ended the creature, measuring seven feet wingtip to wingtip.
Oct 13 reports detail frequent robberies near Montrose and surrounding areas. William Grady, returning to his barn, was robbed of cash by two strangers hidden in the barn. Dr. Spencer and his family faced a highway stop as a stout robber tried to seize the horse bridle, only to be thwarted when the doctor whirled the whip and the horse bolted. Authorities plan to expel suspicious newcomers from the area to curb the rising crime wave.

Elizabeth M Bath a 27 year old musician and church singer died after a 45 day coma caused by cerebral hemorrhage from laughter. Doctors puzzled over her condition after a fall into unconsciousness on July 7 in Manhattan and she later lapsed into a comatose state at Mount Vernon home. She never regained full consciousness and died yesterday while suffering no pain according to relatives.
Miss Maud Striker, Drake University student, unearthed a long buried burial site at Gilley’s beach Lake Okoboji. She and partners discovered a skull and cross bones wagon spokes bones moccasin copper ornaments toma hawks arrow heads and a knife fragment. The discovery challenges the belief that Indians did not inhabit the lake region.

John Lee and Frank Taylor, escaped Sioux Falls penitentiary inmates, were found three miles east of Dell Rapids after attempting to seize a team from Chris Bach. Bach and bystander Gunder Olson were wounded. Olson aided the capture, and guards returned the convicts to Sioux Falls. Taylor had a prior hand wound from the escape.

In a headon collision between the Sunset limited and the New Orleans express near Chine on the Lafayette division of the Southern Pacific five people were seriously injured including two crew members. Passengers injured include A. E. A. Allen of Monterey California J. A. Thomas of San Antonio and A. Devere of El Paso. A wrecking train with surgeons was dispatched to the scene.
Bank at Freeland Indiana was destroyed by dynamite early today. Robbers blew open the safe and secured about $20,000 before fleeing. Sheriff and state police launched pursuit as Fowler reported the blast occurred near sunrise. No injuries reported.

Cooking and sewing class starts as the sole industrial work. Miss Margaret Green from Council Bluffs becomes boys' matron. Building expansions funded by the state legislature last session are completed. Expected pupil numbers exceed all prior years.
In the Bronx a nine passenger car veered off Jerome avenue at One Hundred Sixty first street and rolled onto the New York Central railroad tracks. A man and a woman were killed and eight others injured as a southbound Croton local struck the wreckage. Albert Noyes, the chauffeur, was killed. Engineer Livingston of the Croton train was arrested. A second woman, Anna Smith, died later, bringing the death count to three.
