Boy Steals From Eureka Home Then Tries to Flee
In Aberdeen South Dakota on October 5, 11 year old John deit schier son of Jacob Mutsehler of Eureka steals 261 dollars in cash and 400 in checks from his family while father away. He hires a livery rig to Hosmer and is pursued by an officer six miles south of Eureka. Confined in Eureka jail until father returns, the father considers reform school but drops charges as the boy is deemed too old for that program.

Margaret Upton, 43 year old daughter of Mr and Mrs D L Upton of Pierce Nebraska, was fatally scalded when she fell into a pail of boiling water carried by her grandfather Mr Jewett who went to kill a chicken. The attending physician reports no hope of recovery.
Bear Gulch Postmaster Reuben Pratt Dies in Spearfish
Reuben A. Pratt former Bear Gulch postmaster in western Lawrence county died at a Spearfish hotel at age 65. A Civil War veteran he came to the Black Hills in 1876 and was a renowned prospector.

Foundations Nears Completion for Deadwood Court House
Deadwood South Dakota October 4 the foundation walls for the new United States court house and post office are nearly finished awaiting three carloads of Massachusetts granite for basement walls. Black Hills building stone will be used above the basement. Burke quarry near Hot Springs has sent several carloads and stone cutters will work all winter. The Chicago and Northwestern Railway built a spur to the site for material delivery.

Girl Victim in Painful Pole Accident Near Boundary
A 6 year old girl, daughter of AL J. Baldwin, was severely injured when she slipped while climbing a telephone pole and was impaled on an iron hook. Nearby men freed her after she hung about a foot off the ground. Doctors expect she will recover with no permanent crippling.

Boundary Survey In Montana Lake Region Underway
