Mitchell crowds filled the Corn Palace for closing night with Phinney's United States Band delivering encore after encore. Flashlight photos captured the audience and performers as Dr Dundass thanked all contributors and lauded the nine days of music and展示. Phantom Phinney and his United States band left Mitchell Friday aboard the Milwaukee road for Chicago with a stop in Algona Iowa. Sioux Falls Elks, after a long train ride to Mitchell, were exhausted yet pleased by the reception. Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler F. S. Emerson called the journey the hardest ever but noted the group enjoyed the experience and would repeat it if offered. Fawns had been unruly at first but the herd calmed by morning. Mitchell residents treated them warmly with hospitality.
The Corn Ball Exposition proved an artistic success with attractions of the very best and attendees satisfied. Receipts may not cover costs as attendance has been good but expenditures high. management hopes for a better financial outcome, and the exposition will close Thursday urging attendance.
The Mitchell Club marks months of arranging rooms above Lyons grocery and the Scallin building for members. Officers include William M. Smith president R. R. Bowdle vice president W. E. Turner secretary and W. C. Huyck treasurer. Rooms serve reading writing billiards social events and receptions with furniture lace curtains a grand piano and Brussels carpet. The club plans to invite outside guests and strengthen membership as local business men participate.
Rev H H Gunderson resigns to lead Rapid City church and is replaced by Rev A C Steuernagel who arrived yesterday. Gunderson reported the Parker meeting attendance and the church’s good condition on his departure. The church raised 1920 dollars this year toward debts and pastor’s salary. Benjamin Morse moderated the state convention, a layman in that role for 15 years. Gunderson plans to depart Friday for Rapid City.
Wilson sues the city claiming damages after an artesian well built on north Main street between Sixth and Seventh Streets was found to encroach five to six feet on Wilson's adjoining lot. He seeks damages and interest totaling just over $819 at $100 yearly, with papers served on Mayor VanAlstine.
