Eastern Star District Convention Held Here Last Thursday
The Eastern Star district met in Mitchell, with 35 to 40 members attending from nearby towns. Mrs. Jennie B. Bradley, grand worthy matron, presided. A. F. Grimm of Parkston joined in the initiatory degree. a reception and banquet followed, with Chrysanthemums decor and dancing. Funds pledged for the year and a pulpit supply planned. A. D. Fraser of Brooklyn invited to pastor the Mitchell Presbyterian church which has been closed for four years.

Pardoned Mitchell burglar Havlatko freed on excessive sentence
John Havlatko of Mitchell was granted a pardon from the penitentiary after a year and a half. Convicted of burglary for breaking into a rival second hand shop and stealing coins, he argued the four year sentence was excessive. Colvin and others had interceded, citing the broader misconduct linked to prior shop break ins and silk yarn thefts in Mitchell.

Wolf slaying ends chase in Plankinton area
An Aurora county man killed a large gray wolf after a four mile pursuit on horseback. The beast sought refuge in a burrow where a revolver failed to fire. The rider dismounted, grabbed the wolf by the throat with his left hand and killed it with a rock in his right. The Plankinton Standard notes the skin as the largest seen in South Dakota.

Revival Services Begin at Grand Opera House
A series of revival services opened at the Grand Opera House in Mitchell on Sunday morning under the YMCA. Evangelist Rev. A. I. Thomson led the first meeting with Rev. Stevens and H. H. Gunderson assisting, a large choir directed by Miss Currens. The afternoon and evening services drew sizable crowds despite cold weather. Thomson urged church members to deepen their consecration and commit to God’s work.

Presbyterians Growuth Report From South Dakota Synod
The Republican received the fifteenth annual session report of the Presbyterian Synod of South Dakota. It covers ninety-one ministers, twenty missions, 129 churches, 5545 members, 7700 Sunday school members, 1800 Christian Endeavor members, and church property valued at 168000 dollars not counting Huron College. Contributions to missions and home evangelism totaled over 4000 dollars. The pastor counts and membership grew this year.
