Emery South Dakota notes report Mrs Glifford Lodwick left Friday night for Verona to visit relatives for a few weeks. A city council action lists purchase of a lot and a half and a contract let to Ed Mc Manus to drill a new city well with drilling starting Tuesday morning. Funeral services for Mrs Bart Driscoll were held Wednesday at St Martin's church with burial in St Martin's cemetery. John Nolan was transferred to the Signal Corps at Camp Mills Long Island as First Operator in the depot. Frank Moran at Camp Funston moved from Trench Mortar Battery to the auto repair department though remains at Camp Funston with a new address. Emery women shipped three boxes for the Emery boys containing sweaters makers wristlets socks candy cigarettes gum and tobacco. Homer Furrell’s horseback ride Sunday ended in a fall and a rough ride as he was dragged by the horse and taken to Mike Doyle's for treatment. He suffered bruises and a head blow and did not regain full memory until Monday morning. He is in Mitchell hospital resting easy.

Last Sunday evening near Parker, Gerald Willard was struck by a Monroe driver John DeBuhr. Two wheels passed over Willard, leaving him unconscious with a torn scalp, bruised back, broken jaw, and a cut above the eye. He was taken to the city hospital for surgical aid. Willard, from Cuba, N Y, had recently been recalled to report to the navy in December after a prior rejection. Also mentioned are travel notes about local residents, military men on leave, and society items from Parker.
Miss Lavina Collins Miss Aleta Wes sey and Miss Frances Olmstead from Dakota Wesleyan University spent last weekend at home in Wessington Springs before returning to Mitchell accompanied by Miss Glennie Collins who will enter DWU. Hyde was dumped near a Corsica elevator and found by night watchmen partly unconscious. A related note says Davison county Y M C A campaign lags with $2,400 of $4,000 quota still to raise.
The Mitchell Salvation Army citadel on North Main Street nears completion after months of canvassing and fund raising. The 25 by 60 foot two story brick hall will host a dedication on Sunday at 3 pm with Governor Norbeck chairing. Local dignitaries and visiting officers will speak, a brass band will perform, and a public banquet follows.
Sioux Falls reports that South Dakota plans a new national guard regiment to join the federal service alongside the two existing units. Organizers cite state sentiment and war department authorization for additional guard units in nearby states, with support from Adjutant General Morris.
Aberdeen South Dakota November 19 A number of farmers from northeastern states meeting here say a serious seed shortage exists in North and South Dakota Montana and Wisconsin for seeding. The shortage affects corn and oats with many farmers struggling to secure enough oats to plant. Montana and North Dakota reportedly face the most serious conditions as poor quality corn may force farmers to feed corn to livestock to prevent spoilage.

L. W. Holt and A. Randolph of Chevrolet discuss production outlook and steel demand. They say 1948 output will drop to half of 1947, with steel prioritized for government and allied needs, followed by U.S. consumers. Factory stock empty but dealers have early-season orders. Mitchell just received a new eight cylinder 1948 Chevrolet.
Mrs Glyde Drew and children returned from Geddes where she visited her brother Albert Theurer Mar Benrenc of Yarxston arrived in Menno Thursday with an eight cylinder Oldsmobile. County commissioners and carpenters toured the county to view new concrete bridges recently erected. Em Reiswig visited Menno last week and plans to move back to his farm near the Decker Jim river. Mr and Mrs Albert Jungman Mrs isd Kulman and Miss Magdalene Sehnaidt journeyed to Sioux Falls Thursday. Mr and Mrs Ein Seydell left Thursday for unspecified destination.
Dalton Miss Anderson from White Lake arrived Saturday night to visit her sister employed at John Lambertson s. Rube Hartman and wife visited Mitchell friends, then left for Pittsburg Pa. The Gleveland family has five members with typhoid fever cared for by a Mitchell nurse. Ralph Weiland and wife and C W Stanley and wife attended a Platt stock sale last Thursday. Nellie I Appleby county superintendent visited our school last Thursday. A miscellaneous shower was held Tuesday evening for Miss Elias Kappenman who is to be a bride. Mrs J J Schroeder returned from Colorado after attending her father s funeral.
