Fire in First National Bank Buildings Blazes on Second Floor
Fire damaged the First National Bank building after 9 pm when smoke appeared from a third floor window and flames were found in Dr. R J Lamme’s dental lab on the second floor. Firemen extinguished the blaze using water from a laddered west wall entry. asbestos insulation helped limit damage. The origin is unclear though suspected near a steam radiator and work bench. Damaged floors and office spaces flood as Simons, Branson, Powers, and Johnston react. The structure, finished last spring, avoided total destruction. Also brief note on Yankton versus Brookings football and upcoming Mitchell game.
