Opera House Project Seeks Mitchell Support From Beall Circuit

Siou x City manager A B Beall proposes building a first class opera house in Mitchell at a cost of about $25 000. He plans a three lot site with back alley access and aims to attract high quality Northwest attractions, forming a six town circuit including Yankton Fort Dodge Mankato and Sioux Falls. Beall will visit Mitchell next week to gauge business enthusiasm and possible municipal backing.

Birthday Surprise Honoring Mrs Emil Becker

Friday evening a surprise party honored Mrs Emil Becker on her birthday. Miss Gertrude Becker arranged the gathering with many lady friends, featuring progressive cinch with prizes won by Mrs Ed Leehan and Mrs C W Downey. Refreshments followed and a vase with chrysanthemums was presented by Mrs Frank B Smith.

Penitentary Sentence After Extortion Conviction

Sheriff Swindler escorted Gust VanHover to Sioux Falls Monday after a circuit court sentencing last week. VanHover pleaded guilty to extortion and received a three year term, a shorter sentence than if he had stood trial.

Mitchell to Get New Post Office Building Soon

The post office in Mitchell will move to a new 22 by 90 foot building on Main Street between Third and Fourth. Smith and Davison won the contract to erect the facility with complete post office equipment and separate interior use, plus increased heating and lighting funding.

Logan Family Plans Return to Mitchell Home

Mr and Mrs Geo KE Logan who visited friends in Mitchell and Chamberlain returned Saturday evening from Chamberlain and left Monday for Waterloo Iowa. Logan said he will return to Mitchell in the spring to make it their home again and never intended to give up Mitchell. The people of Mitchell will be glad to welcome the Logan family back to the city.
