An Indian Boy's Pony at Buffalo Hunt Initiation

A vivid scene from a buffalo hunt showing a boy’s first ride on a wild pony, his mother and father guiding the rite of passage as the clan lines up, the colt bucking and the boy hanging on until he remains mounted for the day. Century. Pigeon Roosts Fifty Years Ago. Pigeon Roost, Scott county, Ind., received its name from its being the nightly rendezvous of the passenger or wild pigeon. These pigeons usually selected some heavily wooded or elevated locality for their roosting, bordering on their feeding grounds, which might be several hundred miles in extent. The pigeons usually commenced to arrive before sun set and continued in increasing numbers until after midnight. At daybreak the birds would begin to leave the roost and depart for their feeding grounds, miles away, returning at night, as stated. It may safely be said that these birds ranged the forests of Indiana from the Wabash to the Ohio, and extending far into Kentucky. So large were their roosts that they became localities of great interest. None was more famous than the one in Finley township, Scott county, Ind., hence the name of the settlement early established there—the Pigeon Roost. -Cincinnati Commercial Gazette. The Small Brother Again. Mr. Courtney flatteredly I had the blues when I came here tonight, Miss Fisher, but they are all gone now. You are as good as medicine, Miss Fisher's Little Brother Yes, father himself says she'll be a drug in the market if she doesn't catch on to some fellow soon.-Philadelphia Times
