First Fatality in Mill in Thirty Years
Yankton South Dakota May 21 A 14 year old son of Rev David Hofer of the Jamesville Mennonite colony was killed in the colony flour mill when his clothing was caught in a shaft while he played in the basement. This marks the mill’s first fatality in thirty years. I S Sandven of the county lost wife and only son in the recent storm when their home overturned at Hurley. The two funerals were held yesterday at Gayville. Mrs Sandven died from burns suffered in hours. The son lingered then died. Mr Sandven was badly burned while trying to rescue his family as the blazing house toppled after a lamp sparked the fire.

Farmer hanged by barbed wire accident near Fairview
In Fairview South Dakota May 18 John Ant, a well known farmer, and Peter Ring were straightening barb wire when Ring tightened the sagging wire. Anderson bent to inspect the fence and the wire flung upward grabbing his chin and lifting him off the ground. His face and neck were severely mangled before he could free himself.

Burglar Alarm Sounds At South Dakota Bank
A burglar alarm at the American State bank in Yankton was triggered at 1 a.m. Tuesday after the outside gong near the roof was tampered with. President M. P. Ohlman was alerted but no burglars were found. The loot attempt seems to have failed as the attackers could not sever the vault gong connection. The alarm also activated at Bridgewater, South Dakota, Sunday night.
