South Dakota Court Power Clash Over State Law
Gov. Byrne and Attorney General Johnson seek an opinion from the state supreme court on whether a 1907 law affecting rail, express, and utility companies is valid under the South Dakota constitution. A circuit court of appeals ruling favors the law, while federal judges and state authorities debate which court should rule on state law validity, risking a jurisdictional battle between state and federal courts.

Aberdeen census bulletin overstates city population
The Aberdeen papers tout a census bulletin claiming 13 594 residents and the largest gain among Dakota cities but the text notes the figure is an estimate based on 1910 growth rates and not a real count. It contrasts Aberdeen with Mitchell whose 1910 rise would imply 7 775 today but warns the census bureau knows nothing for sure.
