In Dodgeville Wisconsin Charles Bruil, on trial for his wife’s murder, died by his own hand in jail. A letter to his alma mater revealed no Bruil graduate, but a Charles Bender who fits the suspect. Avoca links Bruil to Kansas Benders, suggesting he was John Bender Jr. and may have killed his wives to hide his identity.
New York May 12 Dr Watson of Washington discovered the body of Stev Charles Ward former rector of St Paul Episcopal Englewood N J in Judge Drew Rockland Lake home at 4 15 PM Ward had shot himself and wife and tried to kill his daughter a note in his handwriting to Dr Watson said the chloral dose was not strong enough and he had to take it all at once the bottle once contained hydrate chloral was found nearby
Marshall May 12 Garret Dewinkel was taken to Stillwater for a nine year sentence after pleading guilty to second degree manslaughter in the July 4 1886 killing of Jerome Swift. The case involved defense by Lind and Forbes with Seward prosecuting. the act was ruled self defense by the defendant, and Judge Webber imposed the sentence. Dewinkel, born in Ireland in 1858, moved to Lyon County three years ago.
Accounts from Nogales describe a volcanic outbreak in the Sierra Azuel area about forty miles southeast of Magdalena. A traveler from Sonora reports a peak venting large smoke and lava streams, with smoke and fire visible from multiple points along the Sonora railroad. More eruptions are feared in the coming days.

May 12 Albuquerque reports a clash at Defiance seven miles west after a clerk named Allen Borland shot an Indian during a dispute in a village store. The store owner and wife fled to Gallup. Aden and Hans barricaded the upper story. Indians looted the store and pursued Borland and Hans toward Gallup as a cavalry detachment from Ft Wingate heads to Defiance to prevent further bloodshed.
Warrants issued for several saloon men after a drunken mob attacked homes of prohibition leaders in Dunbar. Prohibition supporters faced threats and damage as windows and doors were smashed, a resident woman injured, and several others reported hurt. The town remains tense as investigators pursue arrests.

Mrs. Margaret Ernst a 74 year old woman was found bound and strangled near her home in New Haven. Police and the coroner suspect robbery and note she had recently told her attorney she wished to change her will.
Lewis Town Minnesota May 13 G Town arrived from Baltimore visiting G Schraeder borrowed several hundred dollars last night at midnight he lowered himself from the second story window with a rope and caught the 4 o clock train eastward.
In Greensburg Indiana on May 13 John Fromer a respected local man was shot and killed by his wife after a separation. The wife contends she was acting on a divine command claiming God told her to kill him.
May 13 report from Victoria B C describes a deadly blast at the Victoria coal company mine. About 150 men were inside when the explosion occurred. by midnight twelve bodies had been recovered, with others seriously burned. A rescue attempt failed due to black damp. one rescuer, S Studson, died after exiting. The mine caught fire as a special train with surgeons arrived at 2 am.
