Bachelor Club Dance Ends Season With Notable Social Flourish
The Bachelor club concludes its winter party series with a formal dance at The Mitchell. About forty couples attended as H P Beckwith led the grand march with Miss Dell Wedehase. Rathbun orchestra provided music and refreshments were served under Landlord Johnston. The event closed the club’s season, praised for decor, costumes, and orderly conduct. No arrests were recorded for September and December 1898 and February 1899. Weather signals posted daily except Sundays. Street work included 35 new crossings, 9 alleys, and 23 blocks of graded streets with cement and wooden sidewalks. Sixteen civil contributors paid poll tax.

Artesian Well Drilling Abandoned by Contractors
Mahanna and Johnson halted work on the city artesian well after six months and only 560 feet drilled. They shipped gear to Springfield where they hold two contracts, leaving the city outlay about 1800 dollars. Sand and jammed pipes blocked progress, and the team threw up the job. It is believed casing can be cut at 548 feet to match flow of nearby wells.

Insanity Declared in Yankton Case Against Mrs Reeves
Mrs Johanna Reeves of East First Street was declared insane after a Friday hearing by Judge Abbey and commissioners. Though not highly dangerous, the case paused for further evidence before being sent to the Yankton asylum for treatment. She was placed in the care of her sister Mrs Steinbrook and removed to Yankton Thursday.

University Students Start Hat Removal Movement for Ladies
