Chicago officials led by Mayor Busse and police heads plan a municipal alien bureau to bar anarchists from entering the city and to cooperate with federal immigration authorities. U S District Attorney Sins reportedly approves the plan. The Cook County coroner says further Lazarus Averbuch investigation sessions await Harry Shippy’s recovery.
Gregory South Carolina reports a housing shortage as immigration and new construction surge. Rents rise to ten to fifteen dollars for a single room while land values push up. A new ward system is also adopted, adding five council seats and reshaping Local governance. Condé South Dakota sees plans for a baseball and racing association to support a semi pro team and a regional racing circuit.

Rapid City men pursue enforcement with complaints against saloonkeepers P. B. Mc Carthy John Barker and Charles Barker alleging violations of liquor laws. Ministers report breaches of 11 o'clock closing and restrictions on screens and pool tables after monitoring local saloons.

Chicago march 11 a fire at Apollo hall on Blue Island avenue destroyed the three story structure. an estimated eighty five thousand dollars in damages. a score of firemen were injured and three perhaps fatally hurt in the blaze reported early today.
Belle Fourche South Dakota March 10 government engineers estimate six years to finish the ditch project north and south of the creek. They plan to open 12000 acres for water sales at 3 50 per acre per year totaling about 42000 annually and 250000 in six years. The north side land may add 150000 later. Orman and Crook may be replaced by government supervision with contracts sublet.
Rapid City hosts the 16th annual Western South Dakota Stock Growers association convention on April 13 14 and 15. The event promises to be the largest in the group's history with cowboy stunts pony races and other sports and a large delegation of Sioux Indians from Pine Ridge agency set to participate.
Stamford South Dakota records show the citizens' ticket elected by unanimity at the township vote. Total ballots cast about 44 with 34 votes counted in the tally. The town adopted a wet status by seven votes.

In New York Judge Platzek named Edmond Wise referee to hear divorce testimony in Von Bardeleben matter amid reports a suit by Fritzi Scheff against her husband exists. Scheff denies any filing. Wise cannot identify litigants. Fritz Von Bardeleben linked to Miss Scheff's manager says he may be in Cincinnati with her.
In St Louis on March 10 the Missouri Pacific Iron Mountain Railway announced that after today 2000 shop workers in St Louis would be laid off. The statewide total idle workforce on the system would rise to about 7500.
Aberdeen March 9 Passenger train service between the Twin Cities and Miles City Mont will begin on Milwaukee's coast extension on Sunday March 15. Time cards are being prepared and an official notice will be issued shortly. The new train is a fast service but not the flyer planned after the line reaches Butte and the coast. Aberdeen's post office will advance to first class after April 1 with a required $40 000 annual business threshold already surpassed. A deed records the highest local farmland price at 10 300 for a quarter section between Aberdeen and Bath, about 4 37 an acre.

Sacred Heart hospital expansion includes a new 170 by 36 foot dormitory and plans for a chapel and a new hospital next year.
In Yankton South Dakota March Han Heddleston imprisoned on charges of shooting at Virgil Winfrey a man who danced with Heddleston's claimed partner. Winfrey testifies about threatening letters a bogus grave and a tombstone bearing the rival's name.
Sioux Falls reports that the independent elevator men of South Dakota met and organized the Farmers Dealers Association of South Dakota. Officers elected include President C. M. Bowers Loomis Secretary L. M. Doyle Letcher and Treasurer L. Q, Ellison Vermilion.

Dr W T McGillicuddy lists original Sioux names for hills streams and landmarks around the Black Hills including Minne Luza Wanlila Wakpala Paha Sapa Mato Paha Inyan Kaya and Mato Tepee The article notes carved initials G A C for General George A Custer on Mato Paha and mentions early expeditions with the Neton Jenny and Custer as well as the 1882 lynching of Lame Johnny and a Burnt Wood creek stage holdup tied to a neck tie party.
Gregory county reports a contest between Herrick and Burke before the Gregory county board in Fairfax to decide if either town has a majority for removing the county seat from Fairfax. Observers expect a broader county seat battle if either town appears on the ballot as Fairfax braces for a strong campaign to defend the seat.
Pierre March 7 An appeal to the supreme court follows a long feud between County Superintendent O H Jones Roberts County and teacher H L Priest. Priest lost his certificate over alleged absences and exam issues and now seeks reinstatement. The state superintendent referred the matter to the supreme court for hearing today. Murderers Bible The South Dakota Historical Society has received a relic Bible once owned by James Bell hung by a mob April 20 1885 for the murder of Forest Small. The Bible was found in the county courthouse and deposited with the state museum custodian today.
In Beresford South Dakota on March seven an Egg prank tale emerged as Guy Johnson once employed in Fairmont Minnesota placed his name and address on an egg. Last week a Spanish young woman in Pedro Miguel Canal Zone Isthmus of Panama sent a letter asking him to write back. Johnson refused to reveal the sender's name. It is whispered he tips his hat each time a hen cackles.
Bride's threat to self harm after two weeks of marriage leads friends to intervene and prevent a fatal poisoning. Husband later takes poison but overdose does not end in death. sequel anticipated.
In Aberdeen South Dakota on March 6 Geo Tyler and his bride attempted poisoning after a brief marriage. The bride seized carbolic acid but friends intervened and confiscated the drug. Tyler later swallowed a lethal dose of strychnine but survived. Both vow to stay together and hide the cause of the trouble.
South Dakota officials filed responses to railroad complaints challenging the value of Milwaukee Line and others and defending a 2% cent per mile passenger fare. The responses claim fair value around 15 million for Milwaukee and assert the reduced rate would not cut income, while alleging misrepresentation of earnings and hidden profits from townsite and farm land speculation along new extensions.
In Chihuahua on March 6, $295,000 vanished from the Banco Minero vaults beneath Governor Creel’s study. Investigators believe insiders aided the heist. the broken vault lock and arrests of a watchman, porter, and several unknown men support the theory.
