Mrs L M Lake spoke Sunday at the Grand opera house in memory of Frances E Willard and on behalf of temperance. Two large gatherings praised her eloquence as she stressed reform, motherhood, and the need to ban the liquor traffic. The event was arranged by the W C T U with Rev Burleigh and Father Hogan among speakers and attendees filling the balcony. The talk followed a memorial for Willard and drew strong support from local temperance groups.

Tragic Hanging of Bert Tobey Shocks Ethan Town
Bert Tobey, about nineteen, reportedly in a despondent state, hanged himself Friday noon at his home near Ethan. His mother discovered the trunk with a letter, then found him dead in the barn after the rope over a cross beam. The incident deepens concerns about lingering mental derangement after a prior sunstroke. The Tobey family is highly regarded and heartbroken by the loss.
