The Elocution Department of Dakota University staged its commencement week recital to a sizable city audience. Students and guests delivered varied pieces from The Iron Gate to Brita's Wedding with strong solo and choral performances.

Dakota University Commencement Closes With Debates

The Week's commencement at Dakota University ends Wednesday morning after varied events. Senior class includes six completing the regular course. Friday's chapel program opened with a contest debate between Protonian and Zeta Alpha teams on limiting U S control over the Philippines to a protectorate. the Protonians won the decision.

Baccalaureate Sermon Delivered for University Graduates

Rev. T. H. Youngman of Brookings preached the baccalaureate sermon to six senior graduates at the Methodist church with a large audience in attendance. The program featured the University ladies quartet and choir, and the discourse on the soul inspired and instructed attendees. Rev. O. E. Murray had been scheduled to deliver the annual sermon but was delayed by travel and unable to attend.

Sermon Highlights Profit of Fines Impress Auditors

The preacher delivered a forceful sermon on the value of fines, vividly illustrating profit in penalty. His address received close hearing and left a strong impression on the auditors. Mr. Youngman will remain for the commencement exercises and return home midweek.

A large class completed its graduating exercises at the university Tuesday after 10 o clock amid stormy weather. Few city residents attended due to the weather and distant travel conditions.

Miss Elsie Jackson delivers a piano recital at the chapel as part of the university week events. Poor weather kept many from attending despite her noted mastery and the strong showing of the musical department this year.

Evening Service and School Exercises Highlight Local Event

Dr Graham led the evening service with Rev Shepherd and Rev Nichols assisting. Floral decorations included two night blooming cereus from the Newbury greenhouse. The program featured Miss Jessie M Robertson on Nature Study, Miss Marie M Holten on advancement of women, and Marie's piano pieces Sonata Op 14 No 2 Allegro Andante and Arabelake showcasing her growing talent.

Dakota University Commencement Ends With Diverse Addresses

Miss Jackson leads a strong musical interlude by the Ladies Quartet as Dakota University awards diplomas to forty five graduates from commercial English normal music and senior colleges. Chosen speakers include Mieres Conner Potter Bruce McVay Ida May Farrell and Hauser delivering orations on education citizenship and government.

University Alumni Banquet Honors New Graduates

Alumni hosted a reception and banquet for the 99 graduates during commencement week. Dr. O E Murray of Chicago gave the welcome and spoke on The Scholar of the Twentieth Century. He urged broader higher education and thoughtful leadership for future civic progress.
